Blair Cummins
Chief Executive Officer
As Chief Executive Officer of SportsMates, Inc., Blair is responsible
for leading the overall development of the SportsMates business,
service and technology platform. Blair's interest in computers
and technology began at a young age. He started computer programming
at the age of 10 and gained his first taste of the Internet
startup world when he took a job as a developer at an ecommerce
startup shortly after graduating high school.
In July 2000, Blair co-founded DomainMinds.com, LLC. The company
was originally a direct marketing firm that brokered the sale
of high-profile Internet domain names. Blair has negotiated
the sale of a number of premium domains, including aerospace.com,
which was sold to a private party, and encryption.com, which
was sold to RSA Security, Inc., now part of EMC Corporation
(NYSE: EMC).
An avid sports fan, in August 2001, based on the popularity
and success of unofficial sports websites operated by the DomainMinds.com,
LLC principals, Blair negotiated a deal with global Internet
giant Terra Lycos to have the company build and operate the
official website for tennis superstar Anna Kournikova. The website
was a key component of Terra Lycos' $10 million endorsement
deal with Kournikova. Kournikova.com launched on the Terra Lycos
network in September 2001 and quickly became one of the most
popular official athlete websites on the Internet having amassed
over 300,000 registered users to date. For its work on Kournikova.com,
DomainMinds.com, LLC was nominated for the prestigious Computerworld
Honors Program award and became a Computerworld Honors Laureate
in April 2002. Leveraging its success from Kournikova.com, DomainMinds.com,
LLC also worked on projects for top-tier sports clients such
as Nike/Manchester United and SFX Sports Group.
Blair serves on the Board of Trustees for The Bridges Foundation,
a non-profit charitable foundation focused on encouraging scientific
and technological opportunities for young adults. He also volunteers
for the Vintners Club, the oldest private non-profit wine education
organization in the United States.
A born entrepreneur who started his first business while he
was in high school, Blair is the great grandson of diesel and
automotive pioneer Clessie Lyle Cummins, founder of Cummins,
Inc. (NYSE: CMI), a Fortune 500 multinational and one of the
world's leading manufacturers of diesel engines and engine components.
Clessie is tied to several historic events in sports history.
He was on the pit crew of the first winner of the Indianapolis
500 in 1911 and in 1930, Clessie built a Cummins-powered diesel
race car that set a record for completing the Indianapolis 500
without a single pit stop. The record still stands to this day. |
